Learning on the Job

My current job has two major perks: Free coffee (!) and the capacity to learn things on the job. Of recent, I have been learning how Wordpress's templates work and some simple PHP snippets to integrate the Pods Framework into Wordpess. But the thing I am enjoying most, is putting my skills and knowledge into practice. Plus, I love it when the code simply falls into place. :)

I need to work out what brand of coffee our boss buys, so I can have some at home. :)

Introducing Ivy Wolf

Welcome to my new home on the web! Ivy Wolf will be primary home page, which I intend to show to potential employers. :) 'Agmyst' is a bit of an odd name to say - and probably only appeals to fantasy/sci-fi writers and readers.

For those new here, any posts you see earlier than this date have been moved from my old blog at Agmyst.net.

Although I knew of it beforehand, since I have started working with the 960 grid system at work, I have decided to build my current layout around it. :)

Eventual Phase Out of Agmyst

I am planning to phase out of using "Agmyst" as my main domain. The reason is because I want to focus on using a website to promote myself (it might still have its quirky extras (downloads), but I'm not sure yet), and "Agmyst" isn't a very good name for that.

Well, it isn't a bad name... It just doesn't have much meaning to anyone. Except for maybe a sci-fi/fantasy fiction writer. The people I've shown it to just find it weird. So I'm thinking up a new name that will be easy to understand and pronounce well when spoken. :)

This change will happen over the next few months and I may or may not keep the domain agmyst.net for another purpose.

Exactly What is this Thing?

I guess it's not explained anywhere, but really, a good website doesn't need to explain what it's about.

So why did I create this website? I wanted to put the concepts of "me" and "everything I do" into one displayable package. Normally a website is built for one purpose: To make sales, to generate discussion, to chronicle a particular topic. The needs of a "personal home page" have been replaced by Facebook, where we can share our day-to-day activities and interests with people that matter.

Agmyst.net is not a marketing tool for me (Although my Folio is a different case.) - It is a piece of creative work. Everything I show on Agmyst can probably be done easily on deviantART or Facebook. But seeing as though I am a web developer/designer, I thought it worthwhile to continue using this medium.

Agmyst is all funded out of my own pocket. So if you see any ads, they're either a) To test out the ad service, b) To see if anyone thinks my website is worthwhile for advertising on (I consider this part of my learning about online marketing), c) To offset my costs, even if slightly... :P
